It’s that time again! All GSC STARskate and COMPSkate skaters are invited to participate in the club’s fitness assessments.
Why take part?: First, the results of these assessments inform the club’s programming – Working from the data, our off-ice classes are designed to best meet the needs of our skaters. Secondly, coaches use the data to track their skaters’ strengths and weakness. Third, this data allows coaches and trainers to apply the Long Term Athlete Development Model. This model provides a framework for athlete development best practices:
“Children, youth and adults need to do the right things at the right time to develop in their sport or activity – whether they want to be hockey players, dancers, figure skaters or gymnasts. Long-Term Athlete Development (LTAD) describes the things athletes need to be doing at specific ages and stages.” – Sport for Life
We need volunteers to make this happen!
Come volunteer while your child does the assessment
Play with some push-ups everyday!
Let’s do at least 10 push-ups everyday. I’m doing mine right now 🙂

SUPPLENESS ASSESSMENTS will take place on: Saturday September 24th, 2016 during off-ice classes.
Suppleness is a key element of the long term athlete development model.
GSC’s suppleness assessments are competed 2-3 times a year. The assessments provide formative feedback to skaters and coaches which highlights both strengths and areas to develop. Monitoring suppleness helps coaches to take advantage of the suppleness “window of opportunity” (I.e., The time in growth when it is easiest to develop suppleness) and monitor suppleness to prevent injury.
ALL skaters (even those that normally do not attend Saturday off-ice classes) are encouraged to come on the 24th to participate in the suppleness assessment.
