SUPPLENESS ASSESSMENT – Saturday September 24th, 2016

SUPPLENESS ASSESSMENTS will take place on: Saturday September 24th, 2016 during off-ice classes.

Suppleness is a key element of the long term athlete development model.

GSC’s suppleness assessments are competed  2-3 times a year. The assessments provide formative feedback to skaters and coaches which highlights both strengths and areas to develop. Monitoring suppleness helps coaches to take advantage of the suppleness “window of opportunity” (I.e., The time in growth when it is easiest to develop suppleness) and monitor suppleness to prevent injury.

ALL skaters (even those that normally do not attend Saturday off-ice classes) are encouraged to come on the 24th to participate in the suppleness assessment.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 22, 2016 (REVISED***)
Bronze –  5:20 to 6:20 P.M. (GSC class,10 mins earlier), AND see other time below
Silver/Comp B – 6:30 to 7:20 P.M. (GSC class), AND 7:20 to 8:20 P.M.

THURSDAY JUNE 23, 2016
Gold/Comp B –  5:30 to 6:20 P.M. (GSC class), AND 6:20 to 8:00 P.M.
Comp A/Elite – 4:30 to 5:30 P.M. (GSC class), AND 6:20 to 8:00 P.M.

WEDNESDAY JUNE 29, 2016 (NEW***)
Bronze –  5:20 to 6:20 P.M. (GSC class,10 mins earlier)


LOCATION: CRUSH SPACE
****Skaters are asked to attend the full time allotted for their level****

Why: For first time fitness test participants, these tests provide a baseline to compare with future results. For those skaters who participated in fitness tests in the past, these test results will show improvements since the last test and/or further areas for improvement. The aim of these tests is to support optimal athletic development and performance. The results of these tests will be collected, privately distributed to each individualʼs coach, and securely stored for future personal comparison.

Free to all skaters participating in JUNE 2016 & SUMMER 2016
GSC STAR/COMPETITIVE Skate programs.

PRETEST INSTRUCTIONS FOR ALL ATHLETES:

  • HAVE ONLY A LIGHT MEAL ONE OR TWO HOURS PRIOR TO TESTING (BRING A SMALL SNACK IF YOU FEEL YOU WILL GET HUNGRY OVER A 2‐4 HOUR PERIOD)
  • BE WELL HYDRATED (BRING A WATER BOTTLE)
  • WEAR SUITABLE CLOTHES AND SHOES (e.g. RUNNING SHOES, T‐SHIRT & SHORTS)
  • ENSURE THAT YOU ARE FREE FROM INJURY AND ILLNESS
  •  AFTER ALL TESTING YOU SHOULD ACTIVELY COOL DOWN AND STRETCH.
